Teaching Resume

EDUCATION

MA in Performance – Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, England.       Taught by Rudi Shelly and Nat Brenner.

BA in Theatre – Indiana University.  Taught by Howard Jensen.

TEACHING

1986-1996       New York University (Playwrights Horizons Theatre School)

Acting Instructor for 3rd and 4th year Practicum.  Speech/text teacher for 3rd and 4th year Practicum.  Specialty – Shakespeare.  Also taught The Greeks, Jacobean Tragedy, Restoration Comedy, Ibsen, Chekhov and Strindberg.

The Practicum was initially created by myself and four other colleagues.  It stemmed out of a production of HAMLET that was produced at NYU.  The five of us (director, dramaturg, choreographer, vocal coach and text/speech coach) worked on the production in collaboration during the rehearsal period.  As a result of this production, a division of NYU’s BFA program, Playwrights Horizons Theatre School,  hired us as a team and we created the Practicum.  Designed for 3rd and 4th year students – each one of us taught a different discipline, but worked on the same or similar texts as a point of focus.  A conservatory-like structure, but a special collaboration and cohesiveness existed since an understanding and respect of each other’s aesthetic was present.

1985 – 1988           Harvard University

Acting Instructor for summer school.
